As part of an expansion to an existing software. Red Iron was tasked with creating modules giving a tour of 2 new emerging energy sectors - Liquid Natural Gas and Hydrogen
During the tour there’d be 4 new minigames that would apply the user’s knowledge.
That’s where I came in - I was the Lead Developer for all 4 minigames :)

Hydrogen Concepts





After having a brainstorm session with the team, I sketched out everyone’s idea which we then pitched to the client.
The games chosen were…
600 Times Smaller | Gas Liquid Shipping | Create & Capture | Serving Hydrogen
As I was the main developer on these 4 minigames, mostly everything was developed by me. So to make this breakdown easier,
I decided to share my favorite elements I got to develop for each game.
600 Times Smaller
Similar to the classic game “Snake” but with a twist, control a trail of liquid natural gas and collect cooling agents to shrink.
Not much changed in the design for this one - except during the start of development where i proposed these two ideas.
Increase the speed of the trail after collecting a cooling agent. (Which was initially proposed)
Freeze the tail end once collecting a cooling agent. An idea i discovered while playtesting!
Everyone really enjoyed the second option - so I developed that version which made it to the final game.
Gas - Liquid - Shipping
Rock, Paper, Scissors - but with states of the supply chain
Was really happy with how tactile the buttons felt as well as the feedback elements I added to the match results.
Was also extremely satisfied with this intro animation i made for the button panel.
Create & Capture
Create Hydrogen through both Electrolysis and Geothermal reactions and capture the Carbon emissions.
Was really happy with how the Net and laser felt to use. Especially the Electrolysis lightning effect.
Serving Up Hydrogen
Produce canisters of Hydrogen to serve as many customers as possible
The Adapting Futures mascot “Appo” was such a fun character, I really wanted to utilize them as much as i could in this minigame.
I edited their animation tree to access more of their animations so they could be triggered through the game’s logic. I also made the animation of Appo leaving.

There also seemed to be a bunch of varients of Appo in the project files as well, I didn’t see them used in the other minigames so I decided to utilize them here to add more variety to the customers.
Tutorials
Each Minigame in the Adapting Futures experience has an intro segment that teaches the user how each game works.
I animated and implemented each tutorial to match the style of the other minigames.
